Accessibility Statement
ayatulkursi.org/ is committed to making its content readable and usable by the widest possible audience — including people who rely on assistive technology.
1. Our Commitment
We aim for the Site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and most national accessibility laws. We treat WCAG 2.1 AA as a floor, not a ceiling.
2. Features We Implement
- Semantic HTML — correct use of headings (h1–h4), landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), and list elements so screen readers can navigate efficiently.
- Contrast — body text contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1; large text and interactive elements at least 3:1.
- Keyboard navigation — every link, button, and form control is reachable and operable without a mouse; visible focus outlines are preserved.
- Skip link — a “Skip to content” link appears as the first focusable element on every page.
- Text resizing — the site remains usable at up to 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling on standard viewports.
- Alternative text — meaningful alt text for informative images; empty alt for decorative images.
- Descriptive links — link text describes its destination (no “click here”).
- Arabic & right-to-left — Qur’anic passages are marked with
dir="rtl"andlang="ar"so assistive tech renders them correctly. - Media — audio pages include downloadable MP3 and a text transcript of the verse; PDFs include selectable Arabic and English text.
- Reduced motion — we honour the
prefers-reduced-motionCSS media query and reduce animations accordingly. - Forms — every form control has an associated label; errors are announced, not colour-only.
3. Compatibility
The Site is designed to work with recent versions of:
- Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Samsung Internet.
- Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack.
If you use a combination we have not tested and find a barrier, please let us know (see below).
4. Known Limitations
We know these areas still need work:
- Some older blog posts from before our accessibility review may have non-descriptive link text or missing alt attributes.
- Embedded third-party audio players may expose controls that do not fully match our visual styling focus treatment.
- PDF documents, while searchable and readable, have not been fully tagged for screen readers; HTML versions of the same content are always available.
We are actively working on each of these items.
5. Assessment Approach
Accessibility is checked during our editorial review through:
- Manual keyboard-only navigation of each new template.
- Screen-reader smoke-tests with NVDA and VoiceOver.
- Automated scans (axe DevTools, Lighthouse) on every page template.
- Contrast checks with the WebAIM Contrast Checker.
6. Feedback & Contact
If you find a barrier or have a suggestion:
- Email: ayatulkursi.org@gmail.com
- Include the page URL and a short description of the issue and your assistive technology if relevant.
- We aim to acknowledge every accessibility report within 5 business days and to fix confirmed issues within 30 days where practicable.
7. Enforcement
If you live in the EU and are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the designated enforcement body for digital accessibility in your country. A list is maintained by the European Commission.
8. Updates
This statement is reviewed at least once a year and after significant Site changes.
