– Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255)

Transliteration: Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, Al-Hayyu Al-Qayyum. La ta’khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard. Man dhal-ladhi yashfa’u ‘indahu illa bi-idhnih.

Translation (Sahih International): “Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.” – Qur’an 2:255

How Muslims Actually Use This PDF – And Why the Print Version Beats the Screen

Three years ago, when I first embraced Islam in India, I downloaded the Ayatul Kursi PDF and immediately did what most new Muslims do: I saved it to my phone and told myself I would “read it later”. I did not open it for six weeks. What finally worked was printing it and taping it to the wall beside my bed. Below is what I have learned from reader emails about the different ways people actually use this PDF – and which use case gets the most benefit from Ayatul Kursi.

1. Printed on paper near your bed – the highest-impact use

The hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari 2311 explicitly ties Ayatul Kursi’s protective virtue to reciting it “when you go to your bed”. A printed PDF beside your pillow catches your eye at the exact moment the Sunnah is asking you to recite. A PDF buried three folders deep on your phone does not. This is why every new Muslim I correspond with gets the same advice: print one copy on A4, tape it to your bedroom wall or bedside table, and use the phone version for travel and revision.

2. Laminated wallet card – for the workplace and commute

Print the PDF at 50% scale on both sides of a single A4 sheet, cut into four cards, laminate at any local print shop for under 100 rupees or a dollar, and carry one in your wallet. Reciting Ayatul Kursi after Dhuhr and Asr at the office becomes possible even when your phone battery is dead. This is what most brothers I know in Bengaluru and Hyderabad do.

3. Mosque bulletin board – highest-reward sharing

Print at full A3 size (most Indian print shops charge 40-60 rupees for an A3 colour print) and offer it to your local mosque for the bulletin board. Every Muslim who reads and recites from that copy is reward that continues to flow to whoever printed it – sadaqah jariyah in its purest form. This is the highest-return single-page dawah action any Muslim can take with this PDF.

4. Teaching children – laminated bedroom copy

If you have children learning to recite, print two copies: one for their bedroom wall, one laminated for their school folder. Children memorise what they see daily. Do not underestimate how quickly a five-year-old can memorise Ayatul Kursi when the Arabic text is on the wall they wake up to.

My honest recommendation to anyone downloading this file: do not just save it. Print one copy today. The download itself is not the act of worship – reciting the verse is. The print copy is what makes daily recitation actually happen.

Common Reader Questions

Questions we receive most often about the Ayatul Kursi PDF.

Is there any reward for downloading the PDF, or only for reciting the verse?
The specific hadith rewards – angelic protection at night (Sahih al-Bukhari 2311), the promise of Paradise after fard prayer – attach to reciting the verse, not to downloading a PDF of it. However, downloading and printing so you can recite (and helping others do the same via the printed copy) is itself a means to that reward. Downloads without recitation are just file-hoarding. Download, print, recite – that is the full loop.
Can I dispose of a printed copy that has the Arabic text on it?
Yes, but with respect – because it contains Qur’anic text. The classical scholarly rulings offer three respectful disposal methods: (1) burying the paper in clean soil where it will not be walked on, (2) burning it in a clean fire and burying the ashes, or (3) shredding it thoroughly so no complete word or phrase remains readable. Never throw a printed page with Arabic Qur’anic text into general household rubbish. Most mosques accept old Qur’anic prints for respectful disposal – ask your local imam.
Do I need wudu to read the PDF on my phone?
Scholars of the four Sunni schools differ. The classical position was that wudu is required to touch a physical mushaf. For a phone screen displaying Qur’anic text, most contemporary scholars (including the Permanent Committee of Saudi Arabia and Shaykh Bin Baz) rule that wudu is recommended but not required – because the screen is not the same as a physical mushaf and the text is not permanently inscribed on it. If you can easily do wudu, do so; if not, reciting from the PDF without wudu is permissible in the majority contemporary view.
Can I share the PDF via WhatsApp or email?
Yes – sharing Qur’anic content for dawah, learning, and personal study is not just permitted, it is rewarded. Every person who receives your forward and recites is sadaqah jariyah for you. The only restrictions: do not modify the file, do not remove the attribution, and do not repackage it for commercial sale. Free sharing is exactly what this PDF is built for.
The Arabic looks strange on my phone. Is it broken?
Almost certainly a font issue on your device, not a problem with the PDF. Some Android phones use system fonts that render Uthmani-script Arabic imperfectly. Fix: open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader (free from your app store) instead of the default browser or Files viewer. Adobe embeds the Arabic font properly. On iPhone, Apple Books renders correctly by default. If you are still seeing boxes or garbled letters after switching to Adobe, email us a screenshot at [email protected] and we will help you diagnose.

Common Mistakes People Make with Ayatul Kursi PDFs

Errors we see repeatedly from reader emails – fix these and the PDF actually helps your daily recitation.

1. Downloading and never opening the file

The most common mistake, by far. A PDF saved to Downloads folder is not an act of worship. Only reciting is. Print the file within 24 hours of downloading it – otherwise it joins the pile of good intentions that go nowhere.

2. Printing on cheap paper that fades in months

Standard 70gsm printer paper yellows and fades within a year. Ask any local print shop for at least 100gsm or better – the extra cost is a few rupees or cents, and the printed copy lasts years instead of months. This is Qur’anic text; treat it with the durability it deserves.

3. Reading only the English translation and skipping the Arabic

The PDF includes Arabic, transliteration, and English precisely so you can use all three together. Reading only the English gives you understanding but not the Sunnah reward, which is tied to Arabic recitation. Use the English to understand what you are declaring; use the Arabic to fulfil the hadith action.

4. Throwing away old printed copies with the rubbish

Any paper with Qur’anic Arabic text deserves respectful disposal – buried in clean soil, burned in a clean fire, or thoroughly shredded so no complete words remain readable. Never throw it in general household rubbish. Your local mosque will help if you are unsure.

5. Sharing a screenshot instead of the PDF

A WhatsApp screenshot of the PDF is low resolution and often crops the transliteration. When you forward Ayatul Kursi to family, share the actual PDF file – the file size is small (usually under 500KB) and the recipient gets full quality Arabic, transliteration, and translation. Better dawah in three fewer taps.
