How the Tracker Helps

Habits form from repetition, not inspiration. The tracker gives you three nudges every time you open the page:

  1. A visible streak — once you’ve got a 7-day run going, you’ll feel real resistance to breaking it. Psychology does more work than willpower.
  2. A visible gap — the empty days in the heatmap show you what missed yesterday looks like. Easier to course-correct early.
  3. A visible plan — based on your phase (learning, memorising, or reviewing), the tracker shows you the next right action, not a confusing wall of options.

This isn’t a replacement for sincere intention — it’s a tool that supports it. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if small” (Bukhari 6464).

What Each Phase Means

Learning

You’re still understanding what the verse actually means — the Arabic words, the theology, the context. In this phase, meaning matters more than quantity. One careful recitation with understanding is worth more than fifty rushed ones. The tracker will nudge you toward our word-by-word reader and meaning page.

Memorising

You understand the meaning and now want to commit it to memory. The classical method is three-phase: understand the structure, hear the sounds repeatedly, write the Arabic script. Our 12-day memorization plan and the repeat player are designed for this phase.

Reviewing (Muraja’ah)

You’ve memorised the verse. Now the goal is to keep it. Qur’an memory decays fast if not refreshed — the Arabic word is muraja’ah, meaning “returning to it.” Daily recitation after fard salah and before sleep is the classical regime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my data really stay only in my browser?

Yes — the tracker uses browser localStorage only. Nothing is sent to any server. You can verify this by opening DevTools → Application → Local Storage. The downside is your streak is per-device — use “Export data” to move it to a new phone or computer.

What counts as a “complete” day?

Hitting your daily goal (default: 1 recitation). You can change the goal at the top — if you want to recite 3× per day, set the goal to 3. Partial days (above 0 but below goal) show yellow in the heatmap; full days show green; above 2× the goal shows orange (bonus).

Can I use the tracker on multiple devices?

Yes — but you have to sync manually using Export / Import. Open the tracker on device A, click Export to save a .json file, open on device B and Import it. In a future version we’ll add optional sync; for now the tradeoff is zero signup required.

What if I forget a day? Is my streak gone forever?

Yes — the streak resets if you miss a day. But your total days count never resets. If you break a streak, don’t abandon the practice — the Prophet ﷺ taught that even small consistent deeds are more beloved to Allah than big inconsistent ones.

Can I log recitations retroactively?

Right now, no — you can only mark today. This is intentional: the point is the daily nudge, not a perfect historical record. If you really need to backfill, use Export → edit the JSON manually → Import.

Is this gamifying worship?

A fair question. We’ve deliberately kept the tracker minimal — no points, no leaderboards, no badges. Just a streak and a heatmap. Habits need visible feedback, and this is the lightest possible version. The intention (niyyah) always belongs to you, not to the tool.
